At first glance,
a billion keys,
and they all look the same.
Keys are keys;
it has the shape,
and you assume it works.
You might notice a few minor differences here and there
a gold key, silver key, a brass one too
some are new,
a few are worn,
and then there are other sizes.
But upon closer examination you realize, there’s so much more to it than that.
Tiny grooves, and micro edges.
Jagged and precise.
You try each one in turn.
But as you do,
the facts set in,
these other keys don’t work.
The pair is set.
A lock and key.
And only one will click.
That’s why the key was in the room,
if you made it there.
You had choices.
Do you remember?
I left it on the table.
To the side there was a mirror.
Flipped.
And the other there was a door.
Sideways.
You may have held the lantern,
A feather floating near.
We’re bending time,
nonlinear.
I was in that room
before the others.
I touched them each,
one by one,
And then I chose them all.
Now I’m here,
I leave you clues.
So you can glimpse before.
Before was early,
Now is now.
The story is unfolding.
